Purpose

The McKinleyville Land Trust conserves local open spaces for ecological, historical, agricultural, educational, recreational and scenic values.

Our Story

In 1994, the McKinleyville Land Trust (MLT) formed in response to local residents’ concern over the development of the Mill Creek Shopping Center and its potential impacts on Mill Creek. Since then, the McKinleyville Land Trust has acquired three properties in McKinleyville and several easements in McKinleyville and Eureka. The land trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operated by a part-time all-volunteer board of directors. We rely on donations and fundraising to cover the cost of keeping its three properties open to the public and to cover operational costs. The McKinleyville Land Trust promotes the voluntary conservation of land for natural ecosystems, agriculture, education, recreation, and historic values and is a way for people to donate land or conservation easements in perpetuity.

Become involved in the McKinleyville Land Trust. We are always looking for people interested in volunteering to help maintain trails and pull ivy, help out at fundraising events, or join one of our committees.

Please contact us at at 707-839-LAND or info@mckinleyvillelandtrust.org for information on how you can become involved.

Land Acknowledgement

The McKinleyville Land Trust acknowledges that the lands we manage are on the unceded territory of the Wiyot tribe. We honor the resiliency and strength of the Wiyot people who continue to be active stewards of their ancestral homelands while maintaining a vibrant culture and identity. We encourage contributions to the Wiyot Honor Tax to acknowledge the Wiyot homeland and honor the native people who’s territory we sit on.
